The new Canadian dollar is stronger, sleeker, and … plastic? Although Americans are accustomed to paper bills, these plastic dollars aren’t uncommon around the world. Canada introduced new banknotes in 2011, rolling out polymer $100s and $50s, with smaller denominations following in 2013. These lightweight notes are durable and, with a twenty year lifespan, are more eco-friendly. They’re also much harder to counterfeit.
