Types of Life Coaches

A life coach can help you in several areas of your personal and professional life. If you have a specific part of your life you want to make better, you may want to employ a specific kind of life coach. Or maybe you're thinking of becoming a life coach? Either way, it's important to be able to distinguish between these four types of life coaches.

Professional Life Coach

A professional life coach emphasizes change in your professional life. Were you passed over for that raise or promotion you really wanted? A professional life coach can help with that.

A professional life coach can help with career changes, too. They may be able to help you find your passion--in the job you already have or in another one. The decision you make will be your own, but a professional life coach can help you through the process.

Personal Life Coach

Just as a professional life coach deals with your profession, a personal life coach helps you resolve any personal issues you might have. Do you have trouble staying organized? What about communicating your feelings? Are you and your significant other on the outs? Maybe you just don’t relate to your friends or family the way you used to.

A life coach can help you explore and identify your interpersonal problems. Then, you can get back on track and repair your relationships. For serious or underlying problems, you may want to consider seeing a counselor or therapist, but if you just want a little help, a personal life coach could be the right choice.

Christian or Spiritual Life Coach

There are also life coaches who specialize in helping people of different religions and belief systems. A religious life coach can also help you live your life according to the religious teachings in which you believe. Instead of telling you about your sins or the things you’ve done wrong, they can help you look to the present and the future. They can help you figure out how to make a positive change in your religious life.

Depending on your religion, you may want a Christian, Muslim, or Jewish life coach. A religious life coach won’t be your preacher. They will be someone you can talk to about issues you’re facing in life or even doubts you may have concerning your beliefs.

Holistic Life Coach

A holistic life coach will concentrate on the many different aspects of physical, mental, and spiritual life. To a holistic coach, every time you help a little part of yourself, you’re helping the whole of yourself. If you’re not sure about a specific problem that you have, but you feel like you need some coaching, you should see a holistic life coach. Holistic life coaches often work in homeopathics, aromatherapy, and other alternative practices. They’re not for everyone, but they’re certainly a nice change of pace if you’re up for the adventure.

Deciding which type of life coach you want to work with and then picking that special someone is a hugely personal decision. Even more personal is choosing to become one of these types of life coaches. If possible, talk to several different potential coaches before making any decisions. If you find the right person or the right life coaching path, you should have a great experience.
