Best Scholarships for International Students

Tuition in America doesn’t have to be expensive. There are dozens of scholarships available for international students who want to come to a United States university to further their education. These awards are competitive, but they are some of the best our country has to offer.

American University Scholarships

American University awards partial merit scholarships to academically qualified first-year undergraduate students. The grants range in award amount from $6,000 to $25,000 per academic year and require that the student attends American University in Washington DC. Since this isn’t a need-based, any applicant can apply. 

However, this award is extremely competitive and is based on outstanding academic achievement, excellent communication skills in English, leadership, volunteerism, and community service. This award money remains yours for four years, as long as you remain eligible through your GPA and any other requirements necessary through American University. 

Global Scholars Program Scholarship

Clark University offers a scholarship with a high award to any international student who is looking to study in the United States. The grant allows the recipient to receive $5,000 to $25,000 per year and receive a $2,500 stipend for a paid internship or research assistantship taken for academic credit during the summer. 

Applicants should demonstrate the potential to provide leadership in your community and the world and to commit to making a difference. To be eligible, you must be a first-year student. Students who have already begun are not eligible and cannot transfer credits to a United States university.

The Next Gen Scholarship Fund

The Next Gen Scholarship Fund is awarded to international students who want to further their education in America. Recipients can be high school or college students who are enrolled at a two- or four-year college. 

To qualify, you must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled in a United States school. The grant amount of $1,000 goes to one individual each Fall. The recipient must go to a university in Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia. 

AAUW International Fellowships

Women are able to get a scholarship through the American Association of University Women. This fellowship is awarded to full-time female students for both graduate and postgraduate studies. Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated a commitment to women and girls. There are 116 countries eligible for this grant, and the award amount varies based on which type of degree you’re seeking. A master’s degree has a maximum grant of $18,000, a doctoral allows up to $20,000, and a postdoctoral has a $30,000 limit.

Fulbright Foreign Student Program

For those looking to get a graduate degree in the United States, the Fulbright Foreign Student Program is the scholarship you need. These scholarships for graduate students is available in over 155 countries worldwide, and approximately 4,000 students receive this award each year. The amount of money offered varies from country to country and not every nation is eligible for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program. You can check to see if the Fulbright Foreign Student Program is available in your country and the award amounts on the Fulbright website.
