How to Find Cheap Domain Names to Purchase

If you’re in the market for a domain, choosing a good name that’s memorable and inexpensive can be difficult. You want something that’ll stand out, but those are usually expensive. Before you give up, here are five ways to find a cheap domain.

Consider the length of the name.

If you’re looking for a name that’s relatively cheap, you should choose a longer name. Short names are easy to remember but are more expensive. By selecting longer names you’re losing foot traffic, but you’re decreasing the overall price of your domain. Furthermore, if you want to reduce the cost of your name, consider adding numbers or hyphens to increase the overall length.

Try another top-level domain extension.

Everyone knows about the top-level domain extension “.com” but there are many other extensions you can use if you’re looking to start up a cheap website. Some other domains are still expensive, such as “.net” or “.org” but there are other options. Domains such as “.xyz” and “.tk” are some of the cheapest you’ll find. To lower the price, use one of these domains and save tons per month.

Shop around on different sites.

No one site has the same price on domains, so usually, it’s possible to find a lower amount elsewhere. Some of the cheapest domains are located at sites like 1 & 1, GoDaddy, and even Google. These websites offer domains for as low as $.99 per year. It’s important to review what each service offers to ensure you’ll get the best features available — keep in mind that each site has their own strengths and weaknesses, such as allowing growth for small businesses.

Check the fees involved.

When you purchase a domain, there are many fees involved. Renewal fees, website fees, and many other charges you may be surprised to discover. These additional costs can quickly raise the price of your domain. Once  you’ve chosen a company to purchase your domain through, you need to check any fees that may be hidden. Some websites list their prices clearly, but others require you to call to ensure you get the proper amount — with all of the fees included. Be sure to keep track of the expenses so you know which company is truly the cheapest.

Attempt to haggle for a used name.

Looking around for a cheaper deal is an excellent way to get a lower price, but did you know you can call and directly haggle with a company for an even lower price? Particularly if the domain you have your eye on is owned. If someone has registered a domain and it isn’t being used, some companies are willing to act as a broker to help you purchase the domain name. The overall price of the domain is up to the person that owns it — in some circumstances, it can be cheaper to get a domain using this method.
