Pros and Cons of Wedding Event Insurance

A wedding is expensive, time consuming, and you want everything to go right. While you don’t want to think about it, there is a possibility that something can go wrong. Wedding event insurance is a possibility, but is it really worth it? To help you answer this question here is a list of the pros and cons of wedding event insurance.

Pros

  • Peace of Mind: The one nightmare everyone has when it comes to their wedding is that something may go wrong. Wedding event insurance may be just the thing to help add that extra peace of mind. You and your soon-to-be spouse will have the ability to know that if something goes wrong, you’ll be covered.
  • Covers Hurt Guests: Every couple worries what will happen if a guest trips over a cord or falls over a table and becomes injured. The bride and groom may be liable for the bodily injuries caused, which can cost quite a bit, and piles on top of the thousands already spent on the wedding. Thankfully, wedding event insurance can help pay for any guest that is hurt while at your wedding.
  • Reimbursed for Cancellations: One of the biggest expenses for a wedding is deposits for a florist, band, caterer, and so on. What happens if one of these people cancel? Worst yet, what happens if the venue can no longer host the wedding? Wedding event insurance has policies that will cover cancellations for all of these things. You won’t be out any money, and the wedding can continue smoothly.
  • Pays for Damaged Property: It’s impossible for a bride and groom to know what their guests will do. What happens if one of the guests breaks property at the venue? The couple may be responsible for the damages, but if you have wedding event insurance, the damage is covered by your policy.

Cons

  • May Not Use: It’s impossible to know if your wedding will go off without a hitch, but it’s very likely. Unfortunately, many people purchase wedding event insurance and then never use it. Yes, it can give you peace of mind, but if you aren’t worried in the first place, the money can instead be spent on the honeymoon.
  • It’s Expensive: According to Angie’s List, the average wedding event insurance can cost anywhere from $150 to $550. The price depends on your venue, the number of guests, and how much coverage you need. After paying thousands of dollars for your wedding, spending another $500 on wedding event insurance may seem like too much.
  • Some Circumstances Not Covered: Basic insurance will cover attire, deposits, photos, rings, and videos, but that may be all. You may believe that your wedding event insurance covers certain things, only to find out that it doesn’t. For example, many guests serve alcohol at their ceremony, and a liquor liability plan is sold separate but protects you against suits brought about by an intoxicated guest.
  • May Not Need: Many venues already have event insurance, although this isn’t a widely publicized fact. Venues would like you to use your insurance to cover damages. You may find out that the venue already has coverage if something becomes damaged or if a guest is harmed while at the wedding.
